Is boiler ban on back burner?

It’s claimed Labour is about to revoke the 2035 ban on gas boilers.

Reports in the i Paper, claim that despite pushing for heat pumps, the Government is not willing to ban gas boilers altogether in ten years time.

Under Rishi Sunak’s Tory party 2035 was set to be the year you couldn’t replace your boiler with another gas one.

Now it’s reported Labour will scrap that ban, instead with its “warm homes plan” it will show how more of us can switch to low-carbon heating.

All new built homes will soon have to have either a heat pump or other low carbon heating system and Labour wants to encourage all of us to consider changing from gas boilers, once their time is up.

They are doing this by extending the £7,500 subsidy available to homeowners to buy a heat pump.

Heat pumps – which are either ground or air sourced – are powered by electricity and cost thousands of pounds more than gas boilers.

Labour have not confirmed the report and say their plans will be laid out when the warm homes plan and future homes standard is published later this year.
