SSEN Transmission has announced new partnerships with the Women’s Utilities Network (WUN) and the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), reinforcing its commitment to improving gender diversity in energy and engineering.
The collaborations, which will run until 2026, aim to connect women in utilities and engineering while recognising the value of inclusion in building stronger, more innovative teams.
SSEN Transmission is set to invest at least £22 billion by 2031 to upgrade and expand the electricity transmission network in the north of Scotland.
With the workforce already growing from 400 in 2019 to over 2,200 today, attracting diverse talent and supporting women to thrive in their careers is a key focus.
Allie Walker, HR Director at SSEN Transmission, said: “We’re making progress, but we’re not where we want to be yet when it comes to gender diversity. These partnerships are another important step in creating a workplace where everyone, especially women, can thrive.”
Founded in 2018, WUN aims to support women in utilities through development and networking.
Meanwhile, WES, which dates back to 1919, advocates for women in engineering and offers mentoring, events, and campaigns like “She’s An Engineer”.
