Workers at Chevron’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in Australia are now poised to initiate strike action after mediation talks with the energy major concluded without a resolution.
Originally scheduled for 7th September, the strike was postponed until 8th September, a move with potential global price implications, experts have warned.
This outcome carries the potential to disrupt output from facilities responsible for more than 5% of global supply.
Traders have been apprehensive about reduced Australian supplies intensifying competition for alternative sources.
A Chevron spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, following numerous meetings and conciliation sessions before the Fair Work Commission, we remain apart on key terms.
“The unions continue to seek terms that are above and beyond equivalent terms with others in the industry, including in agreements recently reached.”
