Petrobras has selected Strohm’s thermoplastic composite pipe for water injection and gas lift applications in Brazil’s deepwater post-salt province, including offshore trials at depths up to 1,500 meters.
(P&GJ) — Petrobras has awarded Strohm B.V. and its Brazilian subsidiary a contract to supply thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) for water injection and gas lift applications in Brazil’s deepwater post-salt province.
The TCP will be deployed in water depths of up to 1,500 meters. The contract also includes qualification testing, project engineering, field services and support for offshore trials and installation.
Petrobras will evaluate the pipe under actual operating conditions, including its handling and installation from typical pipelay vessels in the company’s fleet.
Strohm’s TCP is manufactured from carbon or glass fiber combined with polymers such as polyethylene or polyamide. The spoolable pipe is non-corrosive and lighter than conventional flexible or rigid pipe systems, characteristics designed to simplify transportation, handling and offshore installation.
“Petrobras is a recognised expert in flexible pipe solutions, and we are proud to have earned their confidence in our thermoplastic composite pipe products and our team’s expertise,” said Renato Bastos, vice president of Strohm Brasil.
Strohm CEO Martin van Onna said the project will demonstrate how the technology can be incorporated into Petrobras’ operations to improve efficiency and reduce production costs.
The companies did not disclose the contract value, length of pipe to be supplied or specific fields where the TCP will be deployed.
