Petrobras eyes Sirius offshore gas project, subsea pipeline in Colombia

Petrobras may include Colombia’s Sirius offshore natural gas project in its 2027-2031 business plan pending an environmental license, with development plans including a subsea pipeline carrying gas directly to shore.

(Reuters) — Brazil’s state-run oil company Petrobras may include the Sirius offshore natural gas project in Colombia in the production outlook for its 2027-2031 business plan, which is expected to be released later this year, a company executive said Wednesday.

“I think it should appear (in the business plan) if we get the environmental license,” Sylvia Anjos, Petrobras’ director of exploration and production, told journalists at an oil industry event.

Anjos said Petrobras has made progress toward obtaining the license but still needs to complete consultations with local communities.

Petrobras operates the Sirius project with a 44.4% stake alongside Colombia’s Ecopetrol.

The development would include a subsea pipeline carrying natural gas directly from the seabed to the Colombian coast, eliminating the need for an offshore production platform, Anjos said.

Petrobras said earlier this year that it had completed more than half of the required prior consultations. The consultations are a legal requirement designed to protect the rights of ethnic communities that could be affected by the project.
