2023 Top Solar Advocate: Brett White, Pine Gate Renewables

The Solar Power World editorial team is proud each year to present four Top Solar Champions awards, open to all those employed by Top Solar Contractor companies, highlight talent in the industry in different skill areas.

The 2023 Top Solar Advocate award-winner is Brett White, VP of regulatory affairs at North Carolina-based Pine Gate Renewables.

“Last fall alone, Brett authored over 120 pages of comments to FERC in major rulemaking proceedings addressing transmission planning and generator interconnection — two issues that are pivotal to the future of the solar industry in the U.S.”

– Nikki Jones, senior manager of events and sponsorships at PGR

White spends his days in the thick of major national policy and regulatory issues concerning the solar industry. Since joining PGR in 2020, he has worked on implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act, international trade issues, removing barriers for solar resources in wholesale electricity markets and simplifying interconnection of solar power to the grid. White has represented PGR in numerous significant Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) proceedings regarding transmission and interconnection, and regularly meets with policymakers to discuss these issues.

He also uses his experience in international trade law to guide PGR’s decision-making on solar trade issues. White is even working with major industry trade associations to develop a roadmap to onshore the domestic supply chain.

Education is another passion for White, who meets with federal agencies, environmental groups and other organizations to teach stakeholders about utility-scale solar development and construction.

The Solar Power World Top Solar Contractors awards program is part of our annual Top Solar Contractors List.
