British Gas grants up to £2,000 energy support

British Gas has committed a £20 million donation to the British Gas Energy Trust.

The British Gas Energy Support Fund has expanded its offering, now extending grants of up to £2,000 to eligible individuals, regardless of customer status.

This increase from the previous £1,500 maximum aims to assist struggling households in clearing their energy debt.

Established in 2004 in response to escalating wholesale energy costs, resulting in an average energy bill of £522, British Gas has contributed over £200 million to the charity.

This support has aided more than 2.2 million individuals across the UK, becoming particularly crucial during the ongoing energy crisis.

Chris O’Shea, Chief Executive of Centrica, said: “We know that many people across the UK are still struggling with the cost of living and need support with their energy bills, and we want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to help.

“That’s why we have a £100 million support package in place and have committed £20 million to enable the Trust to continue to support people in financial hardship – through grants, energy and advice services.”
