EDF Energy has announced further extensions to the outages of four nuclear reactors in the UK.
The outages, attributed to ongoing maintenance work on steam valves, have led to revised restart dates scheduled for March, as disclosed by the company to Reuters.
The affected reactors include Heysham 1-1, Heysham 1-2, and Hartlepool 1 and 2.
These reactors have faced disruptions since December and January respectively, with Heysham 1 reactors offline since December and Hartlepool units out of operation since January.
The Heysham 1 power plant, boasting a combined capacity of approximately 1.2GW across its two reactors, was initially taken offline for inspections on steam valves late last year.
Similarly, the Hartlepool plant, equipped with two reactors with a combined capacity of about 1.2GW, followed suit in January as a precautionary measure, given its similar reactor design.
An EDF Energy spokesperson said: “Since the valve issue at Heysham 1 in late December 2023 we have been carrying out modifications, replacements and safety case work for all four units with the same valves.”
