July’s wind power takes the breeze

In July, Ireland recorded its third-highest level of wind power generation for the month.

Wind farms in Cork led the production, generating 80GWh, followed by Kerry with 66GWh and Galway with 55GWh.

Together, the top three counties contributed nearly a third of the country’s wind energy.

According to Wind Energy Ireland, the average wholesale price of electricity was €110.94 (£95) per megawatt-hour, a slight increase from the previous month.

The share of electricity demand met by wind energy in July was 22%, down from 33% in July 2023.

Solar and other renewables contributed 7%.

Wind farms provided 32% of Ireland’s electricity in the first seven months of 2024.
