UK Government officials are reportedly considering plans to implement a more efficient process that would allow households to switch their energy supplier within seven days.
The proposal draws inspiration from the banking switch guarantee, aiming to streamline the energy switching experience for consumers.
Currently being worked on as part of the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill, these reforms are anticipated to foster increased competition in the energy sector and potentially result in cost savings for consumers.
The objective is to address existing challenges in the switching process, characterised by delays and occasional errors.
Business Minister Kevin Hollinrake informed MPs that a timetable for the proposed reforms, which involve opening up databases across the economy to enhance competition in energy, telecoms and real estate, is expected to be outlined in January.
