More than 700,000 households in Britain have missed out on £300 million worth of support for their energy bills.
That’s according to recent analysis by the BBC, which found that approximately 60,000 applications made under the government’s Energy Bill Support Scheme Alternative Funding, were either rejected or cancelled, leaving many households without the intended financial assistance.
A few months ago, the government stated that over 900,000 households were eligible for the Energy Bill Support Scheme Alternative Funding.
The Energy Bill Support Scheme, introduced last year, aimed to provide a £400 reduction in energy bills for all households during the winter period.
However, households with non-conventional energy setups, such as park homes and houseboats, were directed towards the Energy Bill Support Scheme Alternative Funding.
Among the 200,000 applications made under the scheme, nearly 125,000 households had already received their payment by the beginning of June.
Additionally, approximately 6,000 applications had been approved but were still awaiting payment.
Around 13,000 applications were in the validation process by local councils or put on hold for further assessment.
