New York lights up home energy rebates

The Biden-Harris Administration has announced a milestone as New York becomes the first state to launch the Home Energy Rebates programme.

Aimed at reducing utility costs and promoting clean energy, the programme is part of President Biden’s efforts to stimulate economic growth while addressing climate change.

New York’s initiative is part of a larger $8.8 billion (£6.9bn) federal investment to enhance energy efficiency in American homes, offering rebates for installations like heat pumps and insulation.

This is expected to save families up to $1 billion (£790m) annually on energy bills and create around 50,000 jobs across various sectors.

John Podesta, Senior Advisor to the President for International Climate Policy, said: “The Inflation Reduction Act’s home energy rebates for clean and energy-efficient appliances and upgrades will save families money by lowering their energy bills.”
