No new UK oil and gas permits on the table

The government has no plans to issue new oil and gas licences and will not speculate on future legal costs.

Claire Coutinho, the Shadow Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, has asked the Secretary of State about the budget allocated for potential legal costs if businesses challenge the decision not to issue new oil and gas licences.

Michael Shanks, the Energy Minister, responded by stating that the government does not plan to issue new licences for exploring new oil and gas fields.

Mr Shanks noted that the government does not speculate on possible future legal costs related to this decision.

The government has not provided further details on how it will handle any legal action that may be taken by businesses in response to this decision.
