‘One in four UK social housing households went without heating last winter’

New data reveals that last winter, around 25% of households residing in social housing in the UK opted to forgo heating to cope with exceptionally high energy costs.

This figure represents a substantial increase of approximately 240,000 households compared to the previous winter.

The rising number of households enduring temperatures below 18°C for extended periods is a cause for concern among organisations addressing fuel poverty, as it underscores the potential health risks posed by escalating energy bills.

The data was obtained through the use of smart thermostats installed in approximately 20,000 social housing households by the energy analytics company Switchee.
