Scotland aims for 6GW solar power by 2030

The Scottish solar energy industry has expressed its support for the Scottish Government’s pledge to substantially boost renewable energy generation by 2030.

The Scottish Government has committed to deploying between 4 to 6GW of solar power by 2030.

The plan marks a significant milestone in the drive towards renewable energy in Scotland.

Helen Melone, a Senior Policy Manager at Scottish Renewables, welcomed the government’s ambitious targets for solar photovoltaic (PV) energy.

Ms Melone said: “Solar power has an important role to play in generating electricity in Scotland, and the UK, and these targets will build investor confidence in the sector, create jobs and accelerate the transition to green energy.

“However, the Scottish Government must set out a clear plan with key milestones on how this level of deployment will be achieved via commercial rooftop, domestic rooftops and for utility-scale ground-mounted solar.

“And it must ensure that Scotland’s public sector harnesses the full solar energy potential of its buildings by 2030.”
