SEG Solar starts production at cell factory in Indonesia

SEG Solar has officially started production at its cell factory in Indonesia. The site will make n-type solar cells for use in its 2-GW solar panel assembly facility in Texas.

The cell manufacturing plant in Batang, Central Java, Indonesia, began construction in September 2024. This rapid delivery — dubbed “SEG speed” — has brought production of high-efficiency cells in just seven months.

The newly launched product is SEG’s self-developed high-efficiency n-type solar cell, with an average conversion efficiency of 26.4%. The plant’s first phase includes four production lines with a total capacity of 2 GW. SEG’s screen printing process uses innovative double-sided alternating printing equipment, achieving an average cycle time of 0.75 seconds per cell — 20% faster than traditional industry standards. Additionally, a new sintering process boosts absolute conversion efficiency by 0.3%.

Looking ahead, the cell plant is set to expand to an annual capacity of 5 GW and will further develop a fully vertically integrated industrial chain covering silicon rods, wafers, solar cells and modules.
