Thames Water is set to remove illegally dumped concrete from the sewers in Hammersmith and Fulham, prompting the closure of sections of North End Road, London for six weeks starting 16th February.
Teams will work with contractors to excavate and break down the concrete, with efforts ongoing to identify those responsible for the dumping.
The company is investigating the incident to recover costs for the disruption and remedial work.
The concrete blockage, known as a ‘concreteberg,’ was first identified last summer, leading to daily pump-outs to prevent flooding.
Jamie Keech, Area Network Manager for North West London at Thames Water said: “It’s very frustrating to see our customers suffer because of this mindless abuse of our network.
“This is not the first time we’ve seen damage caused by people pouring concrete into our sewers, which takes a great amount of resource to resolve.”
