A 200-tonne supergrid transformer has been delivered to SSEN Transmission’s Crossaig North substation in Argyll.
Supergrid transformers regulate electricity voltage, allowing power to be transmitted efficiently over long distances. The infrastructure will help connect renewable generation with homes and businesses while supporting Scotland’s wider clean energy transition.
The transformer arrived at Campbeltown Harbour by sea from Poland before being transported before being transferred to a remote-operated 14-axle trailer for the final 24km journey to the substation.
The new Crossaig North substation is part of SSEN Transmission’s wider Argyll & Kintyre Strategy, which aims to strengthen Scotland’s transmission network and support the growth of renewable energy.
A second transformer has also reached Campbeltown Harbour and is due to be transported to the site in the coming weeks.
