AI increases liquid cooling demand

The rapid growth of AI is driving the demand for new liquid cooling technologies as data centres face rising computing and power densities.

The global data centre liquid cooling market is forecast to grow from around $4 billion (£2.9 billion) in 2026 to $27 billion (£19 billion) by 2033, as operators seek to manage the heat produced by increasingly powerful computing hardware.

Echelon Data Centres, an Irish data centre owner, developer and operator, is collaborating with Trinovium, a subsidiary of manufacturer Trinity Biotech, develop liquid cooling solutions for AI.

Liquid cooling can provide a more efficient way of managing heat than traditional air-based systems as AI has an ever-growing electricity demand.

The focus is on direct-to-chip cooling fluids, thermal management systems and modular solutions data centres and high-performance computing.

Technology companies are also developing monitoring systems capable of detecting issues such as corrosion, scaling, particulate contamination and microbial growth.
