BYD and Saudi firm ink ‘world’s largest’ grid-scale energy storage projects

BYD has signed what it claims is the world’s largest grid-scale energy storage projects with Saudi Electricity Company.

The contracts include projects that will have a total capacity of 12.5GWh, taking the total co-operation between the companies to 15.1GWh.

The battery storage equipment will be installed at five sites in Saudi Arabia under the latest deal, supporting the Kingdom’s ambition to achieve 50% of renewable energy mix by 2030.

BYD states: “These installations will integrate into Saudi Arabia’s power transmission network, playing a pivotal role in addressing challenges posed by the rising number of renewable energy generation systems, ensuring stable power supply and meeting peak energy demands.”
