The Egypt-Greece electrical interconnection, known as “GREGY,” is under consideration to be included in the European Union’s list of Projects of Mutual Interest (PMI).
The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy (DG Energy) has announced this potential inclusion, marking a significant step in the project’s approval process.
The GREGY electrical interconnection is a flagship initiative set to connect Egypt to Europe via Greece through a 3,000MW submarine cable spanning approximately 950 kilometres.
This cable will facilitate the transfer of green energy from Egypt to Greece, generated by 9.5GW of renewable energy sources operated by Copelouzos Group in Egypt.
The project’s expected transfer of 3,000MW of green energy is poised to replace 4.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually.
