A new energy trial in Ireland will pay EV drivers when they plug in their vehicles that are parked at home.
Ohme, a home vehicle charger provider, will pay customers up to €78 (£66) as a reward for participating.
The EV Flex Trial begins in mid-August and will run for six months and it is predicted to be the Ireland’s largest domestic energy flexibility study.
David Watson, Ohme CEO, said: “Electricity flexibility services could potentially help save consumers money in energy costs and this trial aims to demonstrate that customer engagement is essential in generating more flexibility and helping the system meet peak demand, reducing costs and carbon emissions for everyone.”
The experiment comes after EV registrations in Europe have skyrocketed to 1.2 million.
The company has already carried out similar trials in the UK such as the largest home energy flexibility trial Crowdflex, which took place during 2024 and 2025. Throughout this experiment, they rewarded participants a total of £750,000 and flexed almost 150MW of electricity.
