The UK’s most notorious illegal waste site has been fully cleared after a major government-backed operation.
The area, which was larger than the pitch at Wembley Stadium, sat on land in Kidlington, Oxfordshire and was shut down in October 2025.
The Environment agency have estimated that 22,105 tonnes of commercial and household waste has been removed.
The project follows a similar operation in Sheffield earlier this week as part of the government’s crackdown on illegal waste dumping.
Environment Secretary Dame Angela Eagle said: “Communities deserves to be free from the blight of illegal waste dumping, and this clean-up shows we will bring hope back to local residents.
“After years of waste crime being allowed to fester, we are taking decisive action through our crackdown, and cleaning up sites like Kidlington is just one part.”
The nationwide programme will use drones and give a bigger role to Mayors and police to punish those who partake in the crime.
Water quality sampling had been regularly taken at the site in Oxfordshire to check for any potential significant impact. However, there has been no evidence of impacts to the local environment.
