Balance Power has secured planning approval for a 40MW battery storage project in Cheshire, enhancing grid stability and supporting renewable energy integration.
Located in Cheadle, the project aims to store renewable energy during peak generation periods and redistribute it to the grid during times of high demand, ensuring reliable energy supply for approximately 90,000 homes.
Staffordshire Moorlands Council unanimously endorsed the project following extensive community engagement and consultation efforts by Balance Power.
Expected to be operational by 2028, the storage facility is projected to avoid approximately 5,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
Dan Levy, Planning Lead at Balance Power, said: “We’re extremely excited about securing planning permission for this battery storage facility.
“Not only will it make a significant contribution to Staffordshire Moorlands achieving its objectives to be carbon neutral by 2030, and bring new clean energy infrastructure to the area, but battery storage is also essential for the UK’s transition to net zero.”
