The Scottish Government has awarded a combined £861,000 of funding to three wind projects through the £3.85 million Offshore Wind Skills Programme.
Ayrshire College, the National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland (NMIS) and STEM Returners will use the funding to provide training, work placements and career transition support.
The initiatives will target a range of workers, including engineering students, STEM professionals returning after career breaks and people looking to transfer skills from oil and gas, subsea, maritime and defence into offshore wind.
Energy Minister Stephen Gethins said: “With funding through our Offshore Wind Skills Programme, these projects will enable more people to secure good, well paid, long-term jobs and realise the wider economic benefits of our journey to net zero, as we build a more secure and more affordable energy future for Scotland and for Europe.”
Ayrshire College has been awarded £280,000, while NMIS will receive £466,000 and STEM Returners £115,000.
The announcement comes as the Scottish Wind Technician Education Centre (SWiTEC) is launched at Ayrshire College.
The latest awards bring total funding allocated through the programme to £2.54 million, following the first projects announced in June.
The Scottish Government said the programme is intended to help develop the skills needed to support the continued expansion of Scotland’s offshore wind industry.
