Construction has commenced at Kirk Hill Wind Farm in Kirkoswald, Ayrshire, marking the beginning of the “largest consumer-owned” wind farm in the UK.
This project, managed by Ripple Energy, will see the installation of eight turbines at the wind farm.
Four of these wind turbines have already been installed.
The wind farm, with a total capacity of 18.8MW, can potentially power around 20,000 households and businesses.
The wind farm is a venture in which more than 5,600 members from households and businesses across Scotland, England and Wales collectively own a stake.
Once operational in early 2024, co-operative members are expected to see a reduction in their energy bills, with average first-year savings estimated at £269.
