Wales & West Utilities secures funding for green hydrogen electrolyser

Wales & West Utilities has received funding from Ofgem‘s Strategic Innovation Fund to develop green hydrogen electrolyser prototypes.

These prototypes aim to use wastewater as a feedstock, reducing production costs and expanding low carbon hydrogen production possibilities.

In collaboration with HydroStar, the project intends to create scalable solutions that adapt to various wastewater types.

The project will also focus on smart injection strategies along the gas network to enhance network control and promote the early adoption of hydrogen blends.

The initiative supports the transition to a net zero energy system.

The project is funded by energy network users and consumers through Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund in partnership with Innovate UK.

This phase of the project will continue until March 2024.
