Barcelona sets 2030 goal

Barcelona is ramping up its green transport ambitions, aiming for 85% of all journeys to be made using sustainable transport by 2030.

The city aims to cut private vehicle use from 20% to 15% while boosting public transport and cycling.

The plan outlines 32 measures to reshape urban mobility, including redesigning the bus network to attract more users and calming traffic on 20 km of key routes. Public transport journeys are set to increase from 34% to 37%, while cycling and e-scooter trips are expected to rise from 3.8% to 5.7%.

A major focus is expanding cycling infrastructure.

Barcelona plans to build 55 km of new on-road bike lanes and increase the number of electric bikes.

Unlike London and Milan, the city has ruled out congestion charges, instead relying on improved transport options to encourage sustainable travel.
