National Grid has secured approval for three new electricity substations across South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire to upgrade the regional transmission network.
The substations at High Marnham in Nottinghamshire, Long Lane in Whiston and a new substation near Chesterfield will help manage electricity flows and support upgrades to existing overhead lines.
James Leeming, National Grid Project Director, said: “The new substations will ensure we can continue to supply clean, reliable and more affordable electricity to the businesses and homes that need it.
“We know how important it is to keep people informed and provide meaningful opportunities to engage with us. We’ll continue to work closely with local communities and stakeholders as we move towards construction.”
The infrastructure is expected to help connect more home-grown renewable power to homes and businesses across the Midlands as electricity demand grows.
High Marnham was approved by Bassetlaw District Council in June, followed by approvals for Long Lane from Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and the Chesterfield substation from North East Derbyshire District Council in July.
National Grid say the projects follow several years of planning, consultation and design work.
