Nottinghamshire renewables project given green light

The development of a solar farm in Nottinghamshire has been granted permission by DESNZ.

The Steeple Solar Farm is expected to generate around 450MW of solar energy and host an 150MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

It is estimated to deliver £320,000 a year in community benefits, equating to approximately £13 million over the lifetime of the project. This could include a discount scheme which will aim to provide a minimum £350 electricity discount for nearby businesses and homes each year.

Steeple could also provide £224 million of investment into the construction of the scheme and create 400 jobs over the two year build programme.

During the application, which began last summer, the public were given the opportunity to give evidence to the Examining Authority. This project marks the 115th energy applications to be examined to date.

The final decision was made by Baroness Curran on behalf of the Energy Secretary’s legal authority.
